How to use
- Type or paste names, one per line or separated by commas.
- Choose a number of teams or a team size.
- Press Make teams. Press it again for a fresh shuffle, then copy the result.
How it works
Names are shuffled with the Fisher-Yates algorithm using the browser's cryptographic random source, so every ordering is equally likely.
The shuffled list is dealt out one name at a time, like cards, so team sizes never differ by more than one person.
With a team size of 3 and 10 names you get 4 teams of 3, 3, 2 and 2 rather than three full teams and one person left alone.
FAQ
Is the shuffle really random?
Yes. It uses crypto.getRandomValues, which is meant for security and is stronger than Math.random.
What if the names do not divide evenly?
Some teams get one extra person. The difference is never more than one.
Can I keep two people apart or together?
Not in this tool. Shuffle again until the split suits you, or split into groups first and swap names by hand.
Are my names saved anywhere?
No. Everything stays in your browser tab.
