Days Between Dates Calculator

How to use

  1. Pick a start date and an end date. The result updates as soon as both are set.
  2. Tick Include end date if the last day should count, for example for a hotel stay or a 30-day challenge that includes both ends.
  3. Read the total in days at the top and the same gap in other units underneath. If the dates are in the wrong order, the calculator swaps them for you.

How it works

Days are counted as whole calendar days, so daylight saving changes never add or remove a day. From 1 January to 1 February is 31 days.

Weeks and days divide the total by 7. Months and years follow the calendar: starting at the first date, whole months are added for as long as the result does not pass the end date, and the remainder is shown in days. If the start is the 31st and the month is shorter, the date is moved to that month's last day.

Including the end date adds one day to the total and treats the last date as a full day, which is the right choice when both the first and last dates count.

FAQ

Does it count the start date or the end date?

By default it counts the nights between the dates: the start date is day zero. Tick Include end date to count both the first and the last day.

How many days are there in a year?

365 days, or 366 in a leap year. The calculator handles leap days, including 29 February.

Why do months and days not always add up to the day count?

Months have different lengths, so one month is between 28 and 31 days. The months and days figure is a calendar difference, while the day count is exact.

Can I find a date a certain number of days away?

This tool compares two dates. To move a date forward or back by a number of working days, use the business days calculator.
