How to use

  1. Enter your hourly rate.
  2. Choose Enter hours to type regular and overtime hours, or Weekly total to let the tool split hours over a threshold such as 40.
  3. Pick 1.5x, 2x or a custom multiplier to see overtime pay and total earnings.

How it works

Overtime rate = hourly rate × multiplier. Overtime pay = overtime rate × overtime hours. Total = regular hours × rate + overtime pay.

Weekly mode treats every hour above the threshold as overtime: 45 hours with a 40 hour threshold is 40 regular and 5 overtime.

In the United States, the Fair Labor Standards Act requires at least 1.5 times the regular rate for hours over 40 in a workweek for covered, non-exempt employees. Some states and contracts set higher rules, so check yours.

FAQ

How do I calculate time and a half?

Multiply your hourly rate by 1.5. At $20 an hour, overtime pays $30 an hour. Ten overtime hours add $300 on top of regular pay.

Is the result before or after tax?

Before tax. It is gross pay, with no tax or deductions taken out.

Does it include bonuses or shift differentials?

No. Overtime is sometimes figured on a rate that includes them. Enter that blended rate as the hourly rate if it applies to you.

Are some workers exempt from overtime?

Yes. Many salaried roles are exempt under federal and state rules. This tool does not check eligibility.
