How it works
These are not fonts. Each letter is swapped for a look-alike character from the Unicode Mathematical Alphanumeric Symbols block, which includes bold, italic, sans-serif and monospace alphabets.
Digits have bold, sans-serif bold and monospace versions. Italic styles have no digits in Unicode, so numbers stay plain there.
Only the letters A to Z and digits 0 to 9 change. Accented letters, other alphabets and punctuation are left as they are.
FAQ
Will screen readers read this properly?
Often not. Many read each character as "mathematical bold small a" or skip it, so the text can be hard or impossible to follow for people using assistive technology. Keep important information in plain text.
Why does it not work in every app?
The characters come from Unicode, so an app needs a font that has them. Most modern phones and browsers do, but older systems may show empty boxes.
Does it help with search or SEO?
No. Search engines treat these as different characters from normal letters, so a bold-styled word will not match a search for the plain word.
Why is italic h different?
Unicode left a gap in the italic alphabet at h and uses the Planck constant sign instead. It looks the same in most fonts.
